The topic for today is pulling the slack out of the bar in the deadlift.
Getting tighter in the deadlift is deadlifting strength. It’s the limiting factor for most lifters and you can't ever have too much of it.
In the episode we'll talk about what tightness in the deadlift actually means, some heuristics for its assessment, a lot of different coaching cues that we use, exercise selections to build tightness in the deadlift as well as ways of organising your training to support some of these technical goals.
Enjoy!
Welcome back to the Reactive Training Systems podcast.
In today’s episode Mike Tuchscherer and John Garafano talk to RTS Coach and World Champion Mark Robb about the mindset tactics that he's adopted over his 40 years of training experience, to become the kind of lifter who's still setting lifetime PRs into his 60’s.
Because injuries can be such a significant derailment to our progress, Mark shares his experience with one injury in particular, which after decades of experience under the bar ended up keeping him out of the gym for almost six years.
This conversation centres around how to adjust goals after being injured, how to reframe some of these scenarios, and not so much about fixing the injury but about how to cope with it mentally.
We're going to talk about long term versus short term and the techniques and tactics that we found to be effective as coaches and as athletes and that we’ve used for accepting our circumstances.
We'll also talk about the value of perspective, about mentorship, overshooting, versus undershooting, and quite a few other things.
We hope you enjoy!
Welcome back to the RTS podcast. Today, RTS coaches John Garafano and Mike Tuchscherer are talking to Shane Martin of Smart Lifts.
Shane is a bench presser and a powerlifter. He's also a coach, who also happens to be president of the Canadian powerlifting, the largest Federation in Canada.
Shane is someone who has a reputation for being a technician in powerlifting equipment. If you're not familiar, then this podcast would be a great way to understand a little bit more of that aspect of our sport. Shane has helped a lot of lifters develop their technical knowledge develop their competency in powerlifting equipment. And because of his track record and his reputation, a while back, we asked Shane, if he would build a course for us about equipped lifting and it's turned out really fantastic. It's available now on the reactive Training Systems website, to those who are interested.
If you are a lifter who's been interested in dabbling in the side of the sport, or if you're a coach that's interested in coaching equipped lifters and maybe you don't have a whole lot of experience with equipped lifting yourself, we definitely recommend that you check it out.

Welcome back to the RTS podcast. This episode is going to be a conversation on how to get started with Emerging Strategies. Mike Tuchscherer will be talking to three of our newest coaches at RTS: Adam, Peter and Hayden.
A question that comes up for us fairly often is how to get started with Emerging Strategies. It's a topic that we're obviously very passionate and very animated about.
If you're listening to this, and you are just getting some first exposure to Emerging Strategies, something that you'll hear us talk about is the Emerging Strategies lecture on the Reactive Training Systems YouTube channel. We have lots and lots of videos that explain Emerging Strategies and various aspects of our programming strategies so definitely go go there and check it out. You'll learn more about kind of the nuts and bolts of how it all works.
If you're ready to really take the plunge and learn all that there is to know about it, you might want check out the course Programming with Emerging Strategies. It's all set up in a way that takes you through the process in a logical way so that you come out the other side knowing how to execute the process and how to apply Emerging Strategies to your clients. You'll understand that there's no such thing as a silver bullet, there's no such thing as an answer that's going to give you the magic individualized program but that doesn't mean that good programming doesn't exist. And you'll have at that point a process for how you can figure out the best program for each of your individual clients. Or if you're training for yourself, how to figure out what is it that you respond best to.
And then, as always, keep in mind that at that www.reactivetrainingsystems.com, if you log in and click on apps, it will take you to a free training log application where you can log your training and run reports on that training for free. The whole point of the app is to help you make better trading decisions and help you understand what weight you should be putting on the bar for your workout today.
